Just had an amazing week here in JH. People here actually smile and say hi even before coffee. It's nice when you travel like I do to get a real warm feel when you come into town. I am knackered. It has been bell to bell since my arrival. I had to friends in from Europe who had never experienced the seen of Jackson and it started with a bang.
I see three types of skiers and riders here. First is the tram dogs... frothing at the mouth with latte in hand waiting ever so patiently to get first tram and ride it till either their legs give out or the chain drops on the gate. The you have the booters... this is a combination of cowboy and sledneck without the dollars to own a sled. Mostly these guys and gals are locals from Driggs Idaho and work in Jackson. They have to drive over the pass on the way to work so they leave a couple hours early crank it out and dream about having a full day off.
Then you have the speed touring junkies I love. Not racers although plenty of that here too. These guys put together projects that take them into the Park. The backcountry this year has been off the hook here. So good and so stable people are skiing lines normally reserved for spring...SSSHHH. These are the guys that constantly post... the skiing sucks stay away.. Crumungins
This week was pretty cool though and started out with a booty stashing (oh ya forgot to tell you I stashed some booty in the woods) then we did the first dynafit NACHT (short for Nachtspektakel) say that fast three times. This is a social tour up to a hut in Europe but for us here in the States that would mean an old heater-less cabin in the woods. So we tour to restaurants on the mountains. JH was our first one and it was awesome. Food...beer... Jagger..oh man i could go on and on but over 60 people toured up JH and after it was all done we skied down with headlamps... super cool with Teton Village below. After that it was prep for the Mountain Hardware North American Ski Mountaineering Championships( N.A.S.S.C for short). Wow what a great event by the promoters and JHMR. Well back to the truck and on my way to the Wasatch to see if Mr. McLean can find his way out of the woods.
